White Sox 4, Tigers 3 – (Saturday’s Completion) – White Sox 5, Tigers 4 – White Sox sweep Tigers
The Chicago White Sox are making the best of life without suspended pitcher Chris Sale. How does two victories in a span of five hours sound? Adam Eaton’s game-winning single in the ninth inning lifted the White Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Tigers in the completion of a game that was started on Saturday. The game was interrupted three times by thunderstorms on Saturday before getting suspended after eight innings tied at 3. Once it resumed, it didn’t take long for the White Sox to end it.  Chicago also won the regularly scheduled game, 5-4. Melky Cabrera drove in Eaton with a game-ending single in the ninth inning after closer David Robertson gave up three home runs in the top half the ninth. Robertson got victories in both games.

Cubs 6, Brewers 5 – Anthony Rizzo’s 3-run double helps Cubs beat Brewers 6-5
Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run double in the seventh inning and the Chicago Cubs rallied from a four-run deficit to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 Sunday. The Cubs broke through against the Brewers bullpen after struggling with runners in scoring position against starter Junior Guerra. That changed after Will Smith took over for Guerra with one out in the seventh. Tommy La Stella went 3 for 3 for Chicago. He had an RBI double before Smith (1-3) walked Kris Bryant to load the bases for Rizzo. He hit a 2-2 slider down in the zone into right-center to clear the bases and give Chicago a 5-4 lead. The rally made a winner of reliever Joe Nathan (1-0) in his first game in the majors since April 2015. He was activated off the 60-day disabled list earlier Sunday, completing his comeback from Tommy John surgery.

MLB – White Sox suspend top pitcher Chris Sale for 5 days
Chris Sale, the ace of the Chicago White Sox, has been suspended five days without pay for destroying collared throwback uniforms the team was scheduled to wear Saturday. The suspension comes to $250,000 of Sale’s $9.15 million salary for the 14-game winner.  He was also fined about $12,700 _ the cost of the destroyed jerseys _ according to a person familiar with the penalty. FanRag Sports first reported Sale was protesting the 1976 jerseys, which were navy and sported unusual collars on a hot and humid night.  Sale is eligible to pitch Thursday when the White Sox are scheduled to play the crosstown Cubs at Wrigley Field.

MLB – Chicago Cubs activate veteran reliever Joe Nathan
The Chicago Cubs have activated Joe Nathan from the 60-day disabled list, completing the veteran reliever’s journey back to the majors from Tommy John surgery. The six-time All-Star returns following a 30-day rehab assignment in the Cubs’ minor-league system. Adam Warren was optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Nathan, who had signed a one-year deal with Chicago in May as a free agent. The Cubs made the move before Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 41-year-old Nathan has 377 saves, eighth in major league history. He last pitched on April 6, 2015, in his only appearance that season for Detroit, before having elbow surgery later that month. Warren was 3-2 with a 5.91 ERA. He was acquired in a trade from the New York Yankees for Starlin Castro.

MLB – Hall welcomes 2 newest members
Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza are the newest members of Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Griffey played 22 years in the big leagues and finished with 630 home runs. Olympics – Rio 2016 – IOC punts on Russians
Olympic officials have failed to back up the findings of the World Anti-Doping Agency. Officials from the International Olympic Committee failed to impose a complete ban on Russia from the Rio de Janeiro Games, assigning individual global sports federations the responsibility to decide which athletes should be cleared to compete. The decision, announced after a three-hour meeting via teleconference of the IOC’s executive board, came just 12 days before the Aug. 5 opening of the games. The IOC rejected calls from the World Anti-Doping Agency and dozens of other anti-doping bodies to exclude the entire Russian Olympic team following allegations of state-sponsored cheating. The head of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, Travis Tygart, says “the IOC has refused to take decisive leadership.” Other leaders of sports and the anti-doping movement also ripped the move by the IOC.

NFLLions place TE Pettigrew on PUP list
Detroit Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew has been put on the active-physically unable to perform list. The Lions announced the move Sunday. They also put wide receiver Corey Fuller and tackle Corey Robinson on the PUP list. Pettigrew tore his left anterior cruciate ligament late last year and finished the season with only seven catches. He’s entering his eighth season with the Lions. Pettigrew caught 83 passes for the Lions in 2011, but the former first-round draft pick has only 17 catches over the past two seasons.

NCAA Football – Crash kills Nebraska punter, Michigan State former punter
A sheriff’s department official says Nebraska punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler have died in a car crash in Wisconsin after coaching at a kicking clinic. Louisiana State’s kicker was injured in the crash. Waukesha County Lieutenant Thom Moerman said speed was likely a factor in the single-vehicle crash that happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night. The 24-year-old Sadler of Grand Rapids, Michigan was driving. He and 22-year-old Foltz, of Greeley, Nebraska both died. LSU kicker, 21-year-old Colby Delahoussaye, was also a passenger and was injured in the crash. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln said Sunday the team will skip this week’s planned Big Ten media days in Chicago because of Foltz’s death. Officials with Michigan State didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

He also joined Johnson as the only Cup drivers with back-to-back wins on Indy’ 2.5-mile oval. Johnson won in 2008 and 2009. Five-time race winner Jeff Gordon finished 13th after coming out of retirement to replace the injured Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt is fighting concussion-like symptoms and has not yet been cleared by doctors to drive.
